Seattle based SBI Association Management (SBI), a full-service association management company (AMC) announced today that effective January 1, it acquired Melby, Cameron & Anderson (MCA), an AMC based in Edmonds, Washington.
In 2015, after years of collegial peer-to-peer conversations, leadership of both companies began to seriously consider the mutual benefits of uniting efforts to better serve member-based nonprofit associations. The acquisition strengthens SBI’s position as the largest AMC in the Pacific Northwest and as an emerging leader in the AMC industry. The two companies are the only accredited AMCs in the Northwest. Administered by the Association Management Company Institute, accreditation is a rigorous process of demonstrating adherence to the highest standards of practice in association management.
At launch, SBI President Marlis Korber said “We are honored to have such a prestigious firm desire to partner with us. The additional executive expertise and experience that this partnership brings will have a lasting positive impact on the entire association community.” The acquisition is expected to add 10 nonprofit association clients to the 28 local, national and international associations that SBI currently serves.

MCA founders and longtime consultants Melby and Cameron will continue to do strategic consulting independently and in affiliation with SBI. Murphy-Love plans to pursue new activities, while Anderson will join SBI’s team, continuing to serve as an Association Executive. Other MCA staff will also be joining the SBI team.
Operations and staff will be consolidated over the next several months, along with the transition of clients, and will eventually run out of SBI’s current headquarters in Seattle.
