Our History

In 1981, Shirley Bishop founded Shirley Bishop Incorporated (SBI) to provide management services to the Washington State Society of Anesthesiologists, who remains one of SBI’s flagship clients today. In 2007, Bishop transitioned ownership to Seattle-area businesswomen Marlis Korber and Harriet Burger. Shirley Bishop Incorporated then became SBI Management Services, later changing again in 2016 to SBI Association Management.

In the following years, the company quickly grew by embracing new technology, bringing in outside certified accounting services, hiring professional staff passionate about working with nonprofit associations and becoming accredited by the AMC Institute.

SBI began partnering with larger associations from a variety of industries while maintaining strong relationships with early clients and became a leader in association management known for its innovative and collaborative approach to association management with a focus on operational excellence.
