Our History

In 1981, Shirley Bishop founded Shirley Bishop Incorporated, which later became SBI Association Management (SBI) to provide management services to the Washington State Society of Anesthesiologists, who remains one of SBI’s flagship clients today. After Seattle businesswomen Marlis Korber and Harriet Burger purchased the business in 2007, they focused on rebuilding the infrastructure of the business by embracing new technology, bringing in outside certified accounting services, and updating client records to a secure, accessible electronic format. With this streamlining in efficiency, SBI began partnering with larger and more diverse associations while maintaining strong relationships with early clients and quickly made a name for itself as the top Association Management Company in the Pacific Northwest.

Now led by long-tenured executive team members, SBI continues to focus on providing a solid infrastructure of support, strategic guidance, and innovative technology to keep association partners on track toward long-term sustainability.
